The construction works haven't started yet due to the heavy rains of the past few weeks which makes it impossible for trucks to reach the plot, but this doesn't mean that we have been sitting still. On the contrary, the guys from Studio Mango have been further developing the seperate buildings in details in order to meet the requirements to make this girls school as efficient as possible.
:: Classrooms :: Each classroom is seperate to simplify the extention of th school if ever needed. Each room gives place to 30 students and has his own toilet facility, 3 toilets for 30 students. The philosophy is more students, more classrooms and at the same time more toilets. (for more info on the toilet issue please visit our current 'toilet contest')
:: Boarding block :: 2 boarding blocks provide sleep and study accomodations for the school girls from other areas in Kenya. Every room can accomodate up to 3 girls, they have a little porch in front of their room so that they can hang out their washing. Their room will give more the feeling of a little apartment. Every boarding block is also provided with toilets, showers and a cooking area. The central area will be a place where girls can hang out after school. The pergola surrounding the central place will provide shade.
We will start a page with pictures as soon as the construction will start, so that you can follow the evolvements of the building, the whole plot. The school will start operating from January 2010.
Studio Mango is still working on the detailed plans for the school.
